From Saturday, Oct. 5 through Monday, Oct. 7, the Downtown and Macdonald Campuses will be open only to 91µÎµÎ students, employees and essential visitors. Many classes will be held online. Remote work required where possible. See Campus Public Safety website for details.

Hazardous waste management training

Hazardous Waste Management offers two training programs to the 91µÎµÎ community:

Hazardous Waste Management & Disposal Training for Laboratory Personnel

Online session for students, staff and faculty: 91µÎµÎ staff and faculty must using the Environmental Health and Safety registration system.

Cost: Free for 91µÎµÎ students, staff and faculty

Content: Proper hazardous waste training is a requirement for all personnel working with hazardous materials at 91µÎµÎ. This session is intended to raise awareness on proper disposal of materials in a safe, efficient and environmentally-friendly manner. The training session introduces participants to four key elements: hazardous waste disposal (chemicals, biohazard, radioactive, and sharps waste), hazardous emergency response, decommissioning of space and the recycling of metals and obsolete equipment.

Certification: This training is mandatory for all laboratory users who handle hazardous materials. In order to get your certificate, you need a minimum of 80% on your examination.

Duration: 120 minutes

Radioactive shipment: How to legally receive and open a radioactive shipment

Online session for students, staff and faculty: Members of the 91µÎµÎ community who are required to open radioactive packages must follow the online presentation.

Cost: Free for 91µÎµÎ students, staff and faculty

Content: You will learn how to receive and open a radioactive type A package as well as excepted package according to Transport of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDGR) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) TS-R-1 regulations.

Certification: This training is mandatory for all laboratory users who receive and open radioactive material shipments. In order to get your certificate, you need to register for the exam on on the Environmental Health and Safety website. A minimum of 80% on your examination is required to get your certification.
