EDDI

The Equity Diversity Decolonization Indigenization (EDDI) Initiative evolved out of a process that began in spring 2020 to operationalize the School of Social Work’s Council Bylaw’s Guiding Principle 1.2.4:

1.2.4 Equity, Diversity & Inclusion: The 91µÎµÎ School of Social Work recognizes that social justice is a core value within its profession and is committed to ensuring the full, meaningful, and equitable engagement of all of its members. Recognizing that equity, diversity, and inclusion require shared commitment and leadership, the School holds equity, diversity, and inclusion as guiding principles in the development of policy and practice within its governance structure.

To create a structure for collective collaboration across the whole school community, the EDDI Initiative has been structured as a School-wide initiative rather than a committee of the School Council. In the Fall of 2020, School Council adopted a five-year (2020-2024) EDDI strategic plan covering five domains: Pedagogy, Student Engagement, Governance, Research, and Community. All committees, programs, and initiatives at the School are expected to engage in EDDI and to report back to the School Council. In addition, the School Director provides regular updates to Council on progress relative to the EDDI actions and indicators specified in the Strategic Plan.

Students, instructors, staff, and field supervisors interested in engaging in specific EDDI activities at the School can do so through the student societies (SWSA & SWAGS), program committees (BSW, MSW, CFT, PhD, Field), or EDDI related activities such as Indigenous Access 91µÎµÎ, SSW Graduate Black Sharing Circle (contact charles.gyan [at] mcgill.ca (Charles Gyan)) and the SSW Undergrad Black Sharing Circle (contact nicole.mitchell2 [at] mcgill.ca (Nicole Mitchell)).
