The Department of Mining and Materials Engineering is inviting applications for the following course lecturer positions in Winter 2025.

MIME 323 Rock and Soil Mass Characterization

Overview

Mining & Materials Engineering: Characteristics of soil and rock masses and the stability of mine workings. Mechanical properties of rocks and soils related to physical/chemical properties. Characterization of rock mass discontinuities. Laboratory and in-situ techniques to define mechanical properties of soils, rocks and discontinuities. Permeability and groundwater flow principles. In-situ stresses and their measurement. Rock mass quality and classification systems.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:

Education: PhD preferred; Master's degree depending on concentration and abilities

Experience: Prior teaching experience preferred

Additional Information: Strong Communication Skills - Eligibility for professional registration as a member of a Canadian professional engineering association.

MIME 341 – Introduction to Mineral Processing (Laboratory Section)Ìý

Theory and practice of unit operations including: size reduction-crushing and grinding; size separation-screening and classification; mineral separation-flotation, magnetic and gravity separation. Equipment and circuit design and selection. Mass balancing. Laboratory procedures: grindability, liberation, magnetic and gravity separation, flotation and solid-liquid separation.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:

Education: Graduate level training in mineral processing with PhD preferred

Experience: Hands-on experience setting up and teaching mineral processing in a laboratory setting

Additional Information: Professional Engineering Licence, P.Eng., preferred
