From Saturday, Oct. 5 through Monday, Oct. 7, the Downtown and Macdonald Campuses will be open only to 91滴滴 students, employees and essential visitors. Many classes will be held online. Remote work required where possible. See Campus Public Safety website for details.

Intensive Chinese Language Program

听

Mission

Students around a table, studying togetherThis program provides students with an immersion setting at both micro and macro levels to study Chinese with a special focus on oral skills and cultural literacy. Students accepted in this program will spend four weeks in May at Shantou University and are expected to take full advantage of the Chinese language and cultural environment by engaging in the classroom and extra-curricular activities as well as in off-campus excursions.

Eligibility

  • Open to full-time (Fall 2024听and Winter 2025) Faculty of Arts (BA)听students in good standing
  • Minimum CGPA 2.7 in Fall 2024, and must be maintained in Winter 2025
  • Must be returning to 91滴滴 in the same academic program听in Fall 2025
    • Awards are only released if all eligibility criteria for award disbursement听are met:
  • Must have the minimum prerequisite of 91滴滴听EAST 230 (1st level Chinese) or equivalent
  • Must meet the eligibility conditions for an Independent Study Away. For more details, visit the听OASIS' Independent Study Away听page
  • Must have attended one of the information sessions,听find dates and links for the sessions here
  • Must have completed the 91滴滴 Pre-departure Orientation course before applying

Required Pre-departure Orientation certificate

  • A valid certificate of completion of the 91滴滴 Pre-departure Orientation is听mandatory听for your application.
  • Register for the course and complete it before applying.
  • The Pre-Departure Orientation is offered monthly, so听听and complete it in time.
  • Certificates remain valid for one year and must cover the entire duration of the program in May 2025.

  3. Make sure to attend at least听one of the information sessions, they are a mandatory requirement of your application
  4. Prepare:听
    • Your letter of intent: indicate why this opportunity听is relevant to and will enhance your academic path at 91滴滴 and larger educational or career objectives (500-750 words). Indicate also how you expect to cope with the new environment that will be STU.
    • Your CV
    • Your unofficial transcript (PDF format, downloaded from Minerva)
    • Your Pre-departure Orientation certificate
