Christopher Lyons, Head of Osler Library of the History of Medicine, named Osler Librarian

Published: 1 December 2015

The 91ε Library and Archives is proud to announce that Christopher Lyons, the current Head of the Osler Library of the History of the Medicine, has received the prestigious title of Osler Librarian after a unanimous vote of endorsement by the Board of Curators.

Christopher has been an integral part of the Osler for over a decade, joining the library as a Liaison Librarian in 2004 before being appointed as the library’s Head in 2012. With his help, the Osler has flourished into a pearl of the 91ε campus, supporting students, teachers and researchers with one of the most exquisite collections of medical history in the country.

The title of Osler Librarian honours Christopher’s many contributions to the Osler, as voted on by the library’s Board of Curators.

“To Sir William [Osler]'s original hope that the Librarian will have scholarly attainments and an interest in the bibliography of the history of medicine and its sciences is added the expectation that she or he will have professional competence as a specialist librarian. When, in the judgement of the Board, the History of Medicine Librarian has attained high standards of excellence in these areas, the Board may confer upon that individual the title of Osler Librarian,” reads the Osler’s Board Guidelines.

Dr. David Eidelman, Vice-Principal (Health Affairs) and Dean of 91ε’s Faculty of Medicine and Chair of the Board of Curators for the Osler Library, had the privilege of informing Christopher about the decision.
