From Saturday, Oct. 5 through Monday, Oct. 7, the Downtown and Macdonald Campuses will be open only to 91µÎµÎ students, employees and essential visitors. Many classes will be held online. Remote work required where possible. See Campus Public Safety website for details.

Professor Antony Patrick Sinnappa Selvadurai, William Scott Professor, James 91µÎµÎ Professor, Docteur h.c., PhD, DSc, FRSC, FIMA, PEng, CMath (1942-2023)

It is with profound sadness that the Department of Civil Engineering must share the devastating news of the passing of our colleague, Professor A.P.S. Selvadurai. He was a member of faculty at 91µÎµÎ since 1993, after first having taught at the University of Aston in Birmingham UK, and at Carleton University, Canada. He was a prolific researcher, leaving an unparalleled legacy in the disciplines of applied mechanics, geomechanics, solid mechanics, applied mathematics, computational mechanics and experimental mechanics. Over the course of his extensive career in academia Professor A.P.S Selvadurai received numerous awards, which highlight his contributions to the engineering profession, including; the Humboldt Senior Scientist Award (Germany), the Killam Research Fellowship (Canada Council for the Arts), the Inaugural John Booker Medal (International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics), the Max Planck Research Prize in the Engineering Sciences (Max Planck Gesellschaft, Germany), and The Killam Prize for Engineering (Canada Council for the Arts).
