Every day, members of the local, national, and international media look to 91�ε� for expertise and commentary on a vast range of topics in the news. 91�ε�’s Media Relations Office (MRO) handles most of these calls and, as in all leading universities, publishes an online directory of experts that is made available to journalists to make their jobs easier.

We are writing to ask for your collaboration in helping the MRO update the Guide to 91�ε� Experts, ensuring it is as complete and accurate as possible.

Temporary Locations for Research Administration Services

Following extensive flooding at the end of January, the second floor of the James Building will be closed for the next three to six months. As a result, 91�ε�’s Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) has moved to two temporary locations. Normal research-related services will resume by Wednesday, February 20.

Please note that all mail should continue to be addressed to OSR’s offices on the second floor of the James Building. It will be automatically redirected to the temporary locations.

On November 16, Prof. Heather Munroe-Blum, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of 91�ε�, visited Tsinghua University, a leading Chinese institution of higher learning. She met with her counterpart President Chen Jining, and they discussed how they might strengthen ties between the two universities in the coming years.

On November 16, Prof. Heather Munroe-Blum, 91�ε�’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor, visited Peking University (PKU), which consistently places as China’s best university in worldwide rankings.

Following her meetings with Prof. Zhu Shanlu, Chairman of the PKU Council, and other officials, it was announced that both universities are committed to increasing their collaboration, especially in areas related to research in law and medicine.

The meetings were important opportunities for 91�ε� to strengthen relationships with Chinese education leaders, to explore new areas of scientific collaboration, to highlight 91�ε�’s international excellence, and to reconfirm the University’s commitment to enhancing its teaching and research collaborations with China.

Building bridges with Quebec-based companies in China

Next round of talks with AMURE in presence of conciliator

At the session held on September 19 with both AMURE bargaining units, the university explained its position on layoffs, end of contracts and recalls of research associates and assistants. This led to questions and several exchanges between the parties. A tentative agreement on the majority of these elements was presented by 91�ε�. The parties reached an agreement in principle on the majority of the issues at hand, but were unable to reach an agreement on the notice of termination of employment.
